Here for your consideration is a fine Ethiopian Welo Opal cabochon. This somewhat rare material exhibits beautiful flashes of aqua, blue, green and purple on the front and back set against the sought after milky blue host. Very interesting to play with under light!
Welo opals are typically found in silica veins, only two to three meters from the surface. Exploiting these deposits is challenging because miners in the region use traditional, rather than modern, mining tools. In addition, only local villagers are allowed to work these sites, facing dangerous conditions to extract the rough material.
High polish front and back. Standard radius dome. A few slight matrix inclusions make this cab interesting and is priced accordingly.
This cabochon will make a beautiful pendant or ring, in a bezel set. It’s quite an heirloom collectors piece as well. Use your imagination. We LOVE creative people!
