Here for your consideration is a flashy Silver Sheen Mahogany Obsidian cabochon. Similar to its cousin Gold Sheen Obsidian, the material exhibits 3-D "Play Of Light" chatoyancy interspersed with bright orange mahogany colors. This unusual type of volcanic glass is usually found in central Oregon. The reflective properties occur under direct light. These streaks are formed by small inclusions of water vapor in the form of bubbles often trapped in the glass. These tiny gas bubbles that have been stretched nearly flat along the flow layers in obsidian which generally cause the reflectance of gold sheen and silver sheen obsidian. It's really friggin' cool!
Wicked polish front and back. Standard radius dome. Windowed layers when held up to back light. Photographed indoors under full spectrum LED's.
This attractive cabochon will make a bold wire wrap or precious metal setting. Quite an heirloom collectible as well.
Skillfully hand cut and polished by Lexx. Photographed dry under full spectrum LED's to capture every detail.
