Here for your consideration is an outstanding, Olivine Peridot cabochon. This deep dark semi translucent green material came from central Washington on private property many years ago, dug up by a friend of ours. Peridot comes from igneous environments. These gems are formed deep within the mantle of the earth, and are brought to the surface by volcanic activity. Olivine is found mainly in dark-colored igneous rocks and thought to be the most abundant mineral in the mantle. Peridot is from the mineral Olivine which is formed deep within the earth's crust. Basalt inclusions. You can get lost staring into the beauty of this one.
Vitreous polish front and back. Near flat radius dome. Sliced thinner to exhibit rich semi-translucency.
This attractive cabochon will make a bold wire wrap or precious metal setting. Quite an heirloom collectible as well.
Skillfully hand cut and polished by Lexx. Photographed dry under full spectrum LED's.
