Here for your consideration is an organic Mary Ellen Stromatolite Jasper gemstone cabochon. Named after the Mary Ellen Mine, this Proterozoic Eon native microcrystalline quartz Jasper exhibits trippy, vibrant deep red matrix tones with mesmerizing swirls of Hematite and clear Stromatolites. Vitreous polish, front and back. Standard radius dome.
This material formed more than two billion years ago in the area that is now the Mesabi Iron Range of Northern Minnesota from single cell ancient sea creatures called Stromatolites. As one of the earth's first oxygen producers through photosynthesis, Stromatolites turned the accompanying iron minerals red, thus the bright color. Stromatolites were once thought to be extinct but are still living on earth today. Quite a resilient creature I'd say...
The keystone symmetry will make an easy wrap or bezel set.
